Purpose

Purpose

The main purpose behind creating “Boliye Bismillah” is to share the diverse and flavorful cuisine of Indian Muslim households with a wider audience. Through this book, I want to create awareness about the unique cooking techniques, spices, and ingredients used in this cuisine, and to celebrate the cultural significance of Dawat.

Another goal of the book is to bring together a collection of recipes inspired by “Summer Under the Tamarind Tree” by Sumayya Usmani, and present them in a more concise and accessible format. By compressing the recipes related to Dawat and organizing them thematically, “Boliye Bismillah” makes it easier for readers to recreate the flavors of this cuisine at home. Overall, the book serves as a tribute to the rich culinary heritage of Indian Muslims and a testament to the power of food to bring people together.

Overview

The visual language of “Boliye Bismillah” is both stunning and intuitive. The book is divided into three sections based on the traditional Indian Muslim meal structure - Nashta (breakfast), Dawa (main course), and Meetha (dessert). Each section is color-coded with a distinct hue, making it easy to navigate and find recipes according to one’s preference. The book’s design is clean, elegant, and incorporates beautiful photographs of the finished dishes, providing an added incentive to try out the recipes. The section dividers are adorned with intricate designs that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Indian Muslims.
